Bam Wonen completed the implementation of eco-friendly upgrades to houses in Sassenheim, Netherlands, for fellow real estate asset manager Altera Vastgoed NV as part of Altera’s sustainability strategies.
The upgrades represents the first project in Bam Wonen and Altera’s long-term partnership toward Altera’s ambition to make its portfolio Paris Proof by 2040 at the latest, according to news releases on both companies’ websites.
The upgrades were implemented on 31 decades-old rental units on Evert van Dijkpad and Parmentierpad in Sassenheim. The work, which included upgrading insulation and ventilation, will reduce natural gas consumption by 17,330 cubic feet per year and CO2 emissions by 31,000 kilograms annually. The upgrades are expected to lower energy consumption and total housing costs for tenants.
The work included fitting roof and ground insulation, replacing windows and fitting in a new ventilation system equipped with a heat exchanger system.
Erwin Wessels, Altera CIO, said:
“We are marking a significant milestone in our sustainability strategy with the delivery of the properties incorporating sustainable home improvements in Sassenheim. This not only serves the interests of our tenants, but also of the shareholders for whom we invest and of society as a whole. We are aware of our great responsibility when it comes to creating healthy environments that enhance people’s quality of life.”
Henry Jongerden, BAM Wonen Deputy Director of Renovation Concepts, said:
“We draw energy from seeing happy tenants in energy-efficient homes! Together with Altera, we will continue to make homes more sustainable and ensure a healthier and liveable future.”
Altera is planning to make another 300 houses more sustainable across nine municipalities.
